Laser treatment for varicose veins
One of the most gentle treatment methods for varicose veins is treatment with the 810 nm varicosity laser system.
This minimally invasive method is used mainly for damaged trunk veins. It can also be used to treat visible "branches".
Treatment with the 810 nm varicosity laser system
During treatment with the 810 nm varicosity laser system, the faulty vein is punctured with a needle. The needle is used to insert a fibre-optic laser probe into the vein. This probe is used to guide laser energy into the inside of the vein. There the laser shrinks the vein and finally closes it permanently. The function of the closed vein is taken over by healthy veins. The blood is diverted to other veins. Varicose veins visible under the skin can be removed by the 810 nm varicosity laser system or other minimally invasive procedures (e.g. mini phlebectomy) as required.
The 810 nm varicosity laser system allows varicose veins to be treated in a considerably gentler way. The procedure leaves fewer scars, and there is far less post-operative pain and bruising than with traditional methods.
In most cases, patients can return home on the same day and perform light physical activity almost immediately. More strenuous physical activity should be avoided.
One of the great advantages of laser treatment is that the compression bandage needs to be worn for a much shorter time. Patients only have to wear compression bandage or hose for 2 or 3 weeks.
Laser treatment can cause minor complaints such as bruising, slight pain and temporary local numbness.
